Job Title:      Director of Student Support Services

Terms of Employment:  12 Months

Pay Grade: 131

Job Summary: 

The purpose of this job is to create and maintain a division-wide vision and comprehensive plan to support student wellness across mental and physical health domains.

Essential Duties:

  1. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  2. Coordinates, assigns and reviews work; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  3. Develops and monitors required and needed programs for exceptional and at-risk students through cooperative planning.
  4. Keeps informed of legal requirements and recommends and implements policies, regulations and procedures to ensure compliance.
  5. Operates the program of psychological services consistent with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines.
  6. Consults with principals, other administrators, school psychologists, social workers, counselors, teachers and parents of students as needed.
  7. Cooperates with public and private agencies, organizations and professional personnel in securing services for students.
  8. Directs the completion, maintenance and files all reports and records legally required or administratively useful.
  9. Develops budget recommendations and provides expenditure control on established budgets.
  10. Establishes program guidelines in conjunction with those required by the Department of Education concerning procedures for identifying, evaluating and placing students into/out of special programs.
  11. Supervises the school nursing program, school counseling program, alternatives to suspension program, school social workers and school psychologists.
  12. Serves as the Discipline Hearing Officer.
  13. Completes required Virginia Department of Education reports.
  14. Evaluates appropriate programs and directs improvement when appropriate.
  15. Performs related work as required.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in student support services field or school administration. Preferred experience as a school or program administrator. VDOE Professional License. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Physical Demands:

Performs sedentary work that involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time: requires little or no dexterity.
